APRA and BTSA Policy and Rules

With Respect To The Covid-19 Response

Updated: June 19, 2020

The APRA has received direction from representatives of the Government of Alberta with respect to operation of our ranges during the Covid – 19 response. These mandates are to be followed until further notice. Failure to do so could result in the closing down our facility. It is the responsibility of each and every member to read, understand, and comply with the policies detailed below.

As we are a private facility and have the controls in place outlined below, we can remain open to our members. The following are the policies adopted by the APRA and in place for the Complex.

  • The APRA Complex will maintain controlled access and will be locked at all times, both at our main gate and also at each of the Stewards’ ranges.
  • Each member is required to practise social distancing (6 feet or 2 meters).

Based on the policy outlined by the APRA, the BTSA board has enacted an aligned and supporting policy for our Association.

  • DO NOT ENTER THE PROPERTY IF you have ANY COVID-19 symptoms: cough, fever, shortness of breath, runny nose, sore throat
  • Some guests are allowed. Guests must be members of you own family cohort, or they must have their own RPAL/PAL.
  • The clubhouse is off-limits and to remain closed and unused.
  • Each member is required to practise social distancing (6 feet or 2 meters).
  • Events that are scheduled will run with special procedures (Please see event addendum, below...)
  • To participate in an event, you must register for it (no walk ons...)

Further, once again we have noticed poor behaviour by persons using our range. Please ensure that the following practices are adhered to:

  • Shooting guidelines for all bays – follow these guidelines regarding distance from targets in all bays and gunfire must be towards the berms at all times. Ensure that your targets are placed directly in front of a berm. All projectiles fired must be captured by the berms.
  • Cleanup of all spent shells and other garbage is absolutely required after completing your session.
  • Targets are not to be damaged by inappropriate use.

- Keep our facility open by complying with the restrictions.

Covid-19 Event Procedure Addendum (May, 19 2020)

The following procedures must be followed for the duration of the 2020 shooting season or until restrictions are lifted by Alberta Health Services.

All participants are encouraged to take personal steps to help prevent the spread. To protect yourself and others:

  • All participants should self evaluate their risk tolerance and participate at their own risk
  • Practice physical distancing, minimum 2 meters at ALL times
  • The clubhouse is off limits and access to garage and sheds must be restricted to one person at a time
  • Before using the restroom: sanitize the handle outside and inside and the seat if needed then put the wipe in the bin. Sanitize hands when done.
  • No sharing of equipment/trying each other’s guns outside of family cohort groups. You can look, but don’t touch.
  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your elbow
  • Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands
  • DO NOT ENTER THE PROPERTY IF you have ANY COVID-19 symptoms: cough, fever, shortness of breath, runny nose, sore throat

  • Registration must occur prior to event. No walk-ons allowed.
  • Registrants must possess a PAL or RPAL (as required by the firearm in use), no mentoring by another R/PAL holder.
  • Inexperienced shooters requiring assistance with their firearm cannot not attend. Each shooter must be able to manage their equipment safely and without any outside assistance.
  • No change. Exact cash payment or prepayment online only
  • Participants must arrive with their own sanitizer/Lysol wipes and masks.
  • Participants are encouraged to bring a gear cart/wagon, and a chair, as physical distancing will limit table space.

  • APRA gate will be manned by an event volunteer to allow registered non-members though. It must be closed for the duration of the event however.
  • One person at a time at safe tables. Safe tables will be wiped down with sanitizer by participants after use. No equipment to be left on table.

  • Sanitize hands before setup, do not touch face, sanitize hands when done.
  • All props and targets will be placed with gloves.
  • Spray paint cans will be assigned to single users and will be sanitized at the end of the night or between users if it is necessary to share

During the match

  • If in use, tablets will be assigned to a single squad and single user. They will not be shared. Tablet data will be merged at the end of the match and tablets sanitized at that time.
  • Timers will be limited to two people on each squad and will stay with a single squad for the entire event. Timers will be sanitized when passed between two users.
  • The RO and the time-keeper will wear masks.

End of match

  • All non-members must leave immediately following tear down. No exceptions. An event volunteer will let you out as a group.
  • Failure to abide by protocols will result in you being asked to leave the range immediately without a refund.
